JAMMU, Feb 14: The Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI) today celebrated “International Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons’ Day to commemorate the first meeting of AOMSI held on this date in the year 1969.
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is one of the nine specialties of Dentistry which corrects a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries & defects in head, neck, face, jaws and hard & soft tissues of oral & maxillofacial region. OMF Surgery is a bridge between the Science of Dentistry & Medical sciences.
JK chapter of AOMSI Jammu celebrated the Day in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Indira Gandhi Government Dental College Jammu. The celebrations included generating awareness about safe driving practices. Posters and pamphlets regarding safe driving practices were displayed & distributed amongst general public. Herbal plants were potted in flower pots in the Department of OMFS as a part of celebrations.
Prof (Dr) Parveen Akhter Lone, Head, Department Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, IGGDC Jammu, delivered a lecturer to the doctors & post graduate (PG) students on Road Safety Practices & Role of Maxillofacial Surgeons in the field of Medicine & Dentistry as trauma care providers. During her lecture, she emphasized upon doctors for creating more & more awareness about safe driving practices amongst general public so that road traffic accidents are reduced and precious life can be saved.
