JAMMU, Sept 13: Police foiled protest demonstration of Apni Party’s Other Backward Class (OBC) Wing.
The protesters were demanding implementation of the Mandal Commission Report in Jammu and Kashmir and granting 27 per cent reservation in favour of the OBC community.
The protest led by State OBC Coordinator Madan Lal Chalotra was held at Press Club, Jammu in which people from district Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur participated to demand implementation of Mandal Commission Report i.e 27 per cent reservation in favour of OBC in Jammu and Kashmir.
The protesters demanded issuance of OBC certificate instead of OSC certificate and creamy layer should be abolished for OBC community as per Other Categories.
During the protest, the police contingent did not allow OBC people to move further towards Dogra Chowk and it led to minor scuffle between the OBC people and police personnel.
After the minor scuffle, over 37 Apni Party OBC activists gave their court arrest to the police. Later, they were released by the police.
Earlier, while speaking to the protesters, OBC State Coordinator, Madan Lal Chalotra said that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that one nation one law then why step motherly treatment being done with the OBC community. The OBC people have been fighting for their rights for the last 7 decades yet their demand is unfulfilled.”
He appealed to the people of J&K to join hands with the Apni party and fight for their rights.
Prominent among those who participated in the protest include Darshan Mehra, Sat Pal Verma, Naresh Malhotra, Pawan Verma, Baldev Raj, Swarn Lal, Iqbal Krishan Maski, Krishan Lal Verma, Jaspal Singh, etc.
