VISAKHAPATNAM: Local lad and tennis Star from the Vizag city, Saketh Myneni has figured in the list of Arujna awardees this year. The award selection Committee, recommended his name for the prestigious award yesterday. The 29-year-old Saketh Myneni is one of the 17 sportspersons selected by the award committee. Saketh has won the gold medal in mixed doubles along with Sania Mirza and won silver medals in the men’s double along with Sanam Singh in 17th Asian Games in 2014. He also represented India in Davis Cup for three years and also played in US Open in singles Category in 2016, Saketh’s father Prasad said here today. The current singles rank (world rank) of Saketh is 438 with 89 points, and so far he has played seven tournaments. Presently Saketh is in China to play ATP Challenger Tour to improve his ranking. Though Saketh was born in Vuyyuru town in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, he grew up in the city. Saketh, a resident of Peda Waltair area in Vizag Smart city, did his schooling at Etasi Timpany School here and got initiated into tennis at the age of 11 and joined the Tennis Academy at Ladies Club at Zilla Parishad . Initially, Saketh was trained under coach PK Kishore and he took up the game seriously, when he was 13 though he had a choice to take up cricket, said Saketh’s father Prasad Myneni, who works for a corporate hospital. He took advanced training under coach Nagaraju. But, Saketh got real sporting experience at the University of Alabama, US, while he was pursuing UG course and was trained under various coaches in the US. (AGENCIES)
