JAMMU, Oct 4: Army and police today thwarted a major terror plot by destroying a hideout of the militants at Badani Nullah in Bhaderwah tehsil of Doda district.
The hideout was destroyed and recoveries made during a joint search operation launched by Territorial Army, Rashtriya Rifles and local police in higher reaches of Bhaderwah following specific inputs about a dump of arms, ammunition and explosives concealed by the militants. After two days of searches, Army and police personnel identified the hideout, made the recoveries and destroyed.
Recoveries made from the hideout, a natural cave, included one AK-47 rifles with two magazines and 195 rounds, two 9mm Chinese pistols with two magazines, one .303 rifle with 15 magazines and 15 rounds, one 12 bore gun with one cartridge and two fired cases, one Chinese sniper sight with eight rounds, 45 belts with Pika rounds, four UMG rounds, seven Chinese hand grenades, seven UBGL rounds, eight kg RDX, two electric detonators, one country made pistol, one pouch, two blankets, Rs 10 in Pakistan currency, Pakistani literature, three steel plates, two glasses and one stove.
Sources said the hideout was located next to water source with adequate logistic support items large enough to sustain a group of militants for prolonged duration. They added that there was plot by the militants to revive militancy in Doda district and recovery of consignment was part of that.
Army and police conducted searches in the area but there were no signs of militants. The searches continued.
Police party in the operation was supervised by SSP Doda Mohammad Sharief Chouhan.
