Srinagar, July 23: Security forces today recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Rampur sector of Uri in district Baramulla while Pakistan violated ceasefire in Nowgam sector.
A senior Army official said that last night, input was received regarding likely weapon drop along the Line of Control ahead counter infiltration fence.
He said that a search operation was launched along the LoC in Hathlanga, Rampur sector Baramulla district during which arms and ammunition were recovered. They include one AK 47 with magazines, five Chinese pistols with magazines, 24 grenades and other warlike stores.
“The warlike stores were new and all markings had been erased. They were likely to have been transhipped from across for further transport to the hinterland for the militants”, a senior Army official said.
In the meantime, Srinagar based Defence spokesman in a statement said here that Pakistan violated ceasefire in Nowgam sector of Baramulla this evening. He said that Pakistani troops fired mortars and other weapons. He said that Army gave befitting reply to Pakistani shelling.
In the meantime, family members of a youth arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir for being an Over Ground Worker (OGW) today protested stating that their son was a labourer by profession and had no militant links and that he was picked up from his home on July 13.
Ajaz Ahmad Wani, a resident of Chadoora, Budgam, who was arrested along with two others from a Naka point yesterday, as per the police, had links with the militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad. “My son was arrested from his house on July 13 for keeping his phone off. He had shop but left that and was working at his home.
He is master in embroidery work and was working at his home when police team picked him up,” Haleema, the mother of Wani said.
“How come was my son arrested at a Nakapoint at Chadoora yesterday. Police is lying about my son. I along with husband even met the concerned officer in the past over a week at police station where we were promised that our son will be released. Now all of a sudden he has been dubbed as an OGW”, she said.
She appealed to the Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar to intervene. “I appeal IGP Kashmir to arrest me and my husband too but keep us with our son, who is only hope for us”, she said.
Police on Wednesday had said that they arrested three militant associates in Chadoora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district at a naka point and later claimed that they were associated with Jaish outfit.
