Army averts tragedy, defuses IED

SRINAGAR, Nov 3:  Army averted a major tragedy today by recovering an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from a car on Baramulla road and defused it.
Based on input provided by 46 RR of Army early in the morning today, 52 RR carried out search and domination of the area and a red colour Maruti 800 was found in an abandoned state on Juhoma Kanishpora road at Juhoma, Baramulla.
The vehicle did not have any number plate on it. The RR unit laid a joint cordon with SOG Baramulla and explosive detection dog was pressed into action. The explosive was confirmed by the explosive detection dog after which the BD squad of SOG Baramulla also rushed to the spot.
On search of the vehicle an Ammonium Nitrate based IED was discovered below the rear seat of the vehicle by the BD squad which was approximately 4kg in weight. The IED was then neutralised by the BD squad by 9.45 a.m.
The alert actions by troops prevented a major tragedy in the area.
