Srinagar, Dec 31: Army today celebrated the New Year with the residents of Churunda village near the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir.
The function witnessed large participation’ gifts and sweets were distributed among the residents. “Being the last village in the Valley, we always celebrate all the festivals with the army, who always helps us in times of need, whether it is medical or any other emergency,” a resident said.
Lala Din Khatana, Sarpanch of Churunda, emphasised their tradition of celebrating every festival with the Army to ensure they do not miss their families.
“Since they live away from their families, we don’t want them to miss their families and celebrate every festival with them. Today, we celebrated the New Year with the army and enjoyed it a lot,” he said.
Social activist Lal Hassan from Churunda highlighted the familial bond between the Army and residents. “We have always been living together in harmony,” he said.
While acknowledging the Army’s consistent support in remote areas during emergencies, he said, “Being a remote area, the Army always helps the locals at times of emergency, be it medical or any other. Today, we wish them a very happy and safe year ahead,” he said.
