SRINAGAR, Apr 16: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General MM Naravane, today reviewed the prevailing security situation in Kashmir and along the Line of Control (LoC).
The Army chief is in Srinagar for two day visit to review the overall situation in Kashmir and along the LoC and also the situation that has emerged due to COVID-19.
The COAS accompanied by the Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen YK Joshi and Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen BS Raju visited the formations and units in the hinterland today.
He was briefed by the Army Commanders about the situation in the hinterland where despite lockdown to prevent spread of COVID-19 Security forces have not let their guard down. They told the Army Chief that the security forces are alert and conducted operations against militants.
The Army chief was also briefed about the situation along the LoC in Kashmir. He was told that despite Coronavirus, Pakistani troops continue to violate ceasefire along the LoC. He was given a detailed briefing as how the Army has been given befitting reply to the Pakistani troops’ ceasefire violations.
He was told that the Army has destroyed militant launch pads in Neelam Valley and other parts along the LoC and have also inflicted casualties on Pakistani troops besides targeting their gun positions and ammunition dumps.
The General was also told that the ceasefire violations by Pakistan are aimed at infiltrating militants into Kashmir. He was told that the troops on the LoC are alert and have foiled all these bids which has led to frustration among the militant commanders and handlers.
While interacting with soldiers on the ground, the Army chief highlighted that it was the dawn of a new era of development, peace and prosperity in Kashmir and applauded them for their high level of morale and motivation.
He reinforced the need to be prepared to meet emerging security challenges effectively at all times. He asked the troops to remain alert to foil the designs of the enemy and work for peace in Kashmir.
General Naravane extolled the close coordination among all Government agencies towards maintaining vigil and peace in the Valley and reaching out to the people wholeheartedly to combat the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic together.
Later in the day, the Army chief visited 92 Base Hospital in Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar, where he appreciated the excellent work and vital critical care being provided by the doctors and support staff of the Base Hospital.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that the Army chief commended the hospital staff for being the lifeline of the Valley.
“He was then briefed by the Chinar Corps Commander at Badami Bagh Cantonment on the overall situation pertaining to the Line of Control and the hinterland”, the spokesman said.
The Defence spokesman said that the Army chief also met members of the civil society later in the evening.
