Srinagar, Jan 3: The Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Mukund Naravane is making his maiden visit to Kashmir next week to have an on the spot assessment of security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and along the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan. He will also visit Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world.
On his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir after taking charge, new Army chief will visit Kashmir and review the security situation and operational preparedness of the security forces. He will visit Victor Force Headquarters in Kupwara for security review.
The Army chief will review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and operational preparedness of troops at a high-level meeting on January 8.
General Naravane took charge on December 31, succeeding General Bipin Rawat and this will be his first visit to Kashmir where internal security situation has improved over the last few months. However, the situation along the LoC has worsened as there was frequent shelling and ceasefire violations from Pakistan leading to escalation of tension along border areas.
The Army chief during his visit will be briefed about the situation in Kashmir and along the LoC and border with Pakistan by the top Army Commanders. He will be also briefed about the Army’s preparedness to tackle any kind of situation inside Jammu and Kashmir and along the borders.
The Army Commanders will brief him about the status of militancy in Kashmir and how the coordinated efforts by various security agencies have forced militants on run. He will be given detailed briefing about how the security forces have killed top commanders of the militant organizations in Kashmir which has led to relatively peaceful last year.
The Commanders will brief him about infiltration attempts being made by militants from Pakistan and frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops which has led to escalation of tension along the LoC and border. He will also be briefed about response of the Army to Pakistani ceasefire violations. He will be given a detailed briefing about anti-infiltration grid that has been strengthened to counter infiltration of militants into Kashmir.
The Army chief will meet top security officials of the State, who will brief him about the security situation and steps taken by the administration after the abrogation of the Article 370 and Article 35A of the Indian Constitution.
Those who will brief the Army Commander include the Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar, Additional DGP CID, B Srinivas, CRPF commanders, and other security heads operating in Kashmir.
