Army commemorates 25 years of raising units in Poonch

JAMMU, Sept 16: Army today commemorated 25 years of raising its units at border district Poonch.
On this occasion Major General P.S Bajwa, General Officer Commanding Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo) along with other senior army officers interacted with a large cross-section of society in Poonch as part of mission reach-out.
A handout stated that army and local population together drove out terrorism from the region.
In a solemn ceremony, wreath was laid by army officials in the memory of officers and soldiers who have laid their lives for the nation.
A large numbers of Sarpanches, farmers, students, religious teachers, veterans, civil and police officials of the district interacted with army officials.
Apart from continuing its relentless counter insurgency operation in the region, purposeful activities by army towards skill development, education and healthcare of locals, ex-servicemen and Veer Naris have contributed largely towards building bonds and enhancing peace and prosperity in the region.
The General Officer Commanding Counter while addressing the officers, JCOs and soldiers of the Force and the locals said: “Our ancestors had worked hard to bring peace in the region and we must leave no stone unturned in ensuring the same.”
