Army conducts study tour of Engineering students

Srinagar, July 8: As part of Army’s contribution towards rebuilding Kashmir through capacity building of youth, Army conducted a tour comprising 22 students from four different Engineering Colleges of Kashmir to leading Military and Civil Engineering and Management Colleges was flagged in by Lt Gen Subrata Saha, the Chinar Corps Commander, at SSM Engineering College, Pattan.
The event was attended by number of senior Army officers, Prof AR Trag, Vice Chancellor of Islamic University for Science and Technology, Dr Nasir Ahmad Bhat, Chief Proctor Kashmir University, Dr. Qazi Shabbir Ahmad, Chairman SSM College of Engineering and Technology, Dilfroze Qazi and academia from universities and colleges, and over 200 students from various Engineering Colleges.
A group of 22 students from different Engineering Colleges of Kashmir was sent on a nine day tour to Mhow and Indore to visit Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) where they got an opportunity to see the state of art labs, latest communication equipments and were exposed to the ever broadening horizons in Communication Technology. Students also witnessed exciting military activities including live firing at Infantry School, Mhow. The students got a chance to visit the Army Adventure Aero Nodal Centre where they experienced the simulation of Microlight aircraft and witnessed live flight of the same. Lt Gen Subrata Saha, the Chinar Corps Commander flagged in the tour at SSM College, Pattan.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Saha said: “In July 2014, a conscious decision was taken to transform the erstwhile tours with purely tourism value into capacity building tours. Since then, the orientation of these tours has been on capacity building. Accordingly, a number of tours for youth from across Kashmir were sent to the places from where they could develop their skills and capacities.  Giving example of the tour wherein students of classes 11th and 12th from schools in Tral were sent to Hyderabad interacted with the CEO of amazon.com for over 90 minutes, wherein the CEO educated them on various facets of career building based on their capabilities.”
The Chinar Corps Commander also promised to send girls on similar tour to the places of their choice. He also proposed to the Vice Chancellor of IUST and academia from other colleges that in case there are any proposal that may help the institutions academically, Army will promptly take on through Sadhbhavana.
