Army dedicates dormitory block for hearing impaired children

JAMMU, July 5: The Army has dedicated a dormitory block for children to the Red Cross Home Jammu, for hearing impaired children at Udheywala.
The project has been executed under the aegis of Chenab brigade, as part of the on-going ‘Op Sadbhavna’. The dormitory block now added, has a capacity for accommodating fifty children. The dormitory block also has a Dining hall, as well as an attached toilet block.
The Army had dedicated another dormitory block, with an attached toilet to the Jammu Red Cross last year also, for the hearing impaired children of the school. The facilities have now been expanded by the Army, in continuation to its ongoing drive and commitment to improve the infrastructure and facilities available, for the welfare of the local community.
The facility for hearing impaired children had been inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Late Smt Indra Gandhi, on Mar 28, 1976. Grants by the Government as well as donations by private individuals help to meet the day to day expenditure, of the facility.
Joginder Chhatrapal, the Hony Secretary of the institute, stated that this gesture of the Army is highly appreciable, and would certainly meet the requirement of providing good amenities for the Hearing impaired children.
Commander Chenab Brigade apprised about the various ‘Op Sadbhavna’ projects as well as the BADP projects undertaken by the Chenab brigade, in the region. He further advised the civil society to come forward in projecting their demands, which would either be taken up by the Army or would by projected to the civil administration.
