SRINAGAR, Apr 10: Army today said that they destroyed gun positions and ammunition dumps of Pakistani troops and militant launch pads in Neelam valley that were active in sending infiltrators into Kashmir.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said here that Army today destroyed Pakistani gun positions, ammunition dumps and militant launch pads across the LoC in Keran sector of Kupwara today.
“Unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Keran Sector (Kupwara). Our troops retaliated effectively and strongly. Precision targeting of gun areas, terrorist launch pads and ammunition dump carried out. Reports of heavy damage on enemy side”, the spokesman said.
An Army officer said that Pakistani troops resorted to ceasefire violations along the LoC in Keran sector today. He added that the Army gave befitting reply to the Pakistani troops and targeted Pakistani gun positions and ammunition dumps in Neelam valley and they were destroyed.
The officer said that several militant launch pads in Neelam valley in PoK were destroyed by firing from Bofors guns. He said that the firing led to casualties as well and damaged caused is being assessed.
Sources said that Pakistani troops targeted Panzgam, Malikpora, TCP, Hafrada and Ferkiyan areas and it has created panic among the residents. At Panzam, many people have left their homes and are moving towards safer locations while others have confined themselves to safer locations within their homes.
The locals living in areas like, Zurhama, Jumgand, Farkin and Panzgam, Juktiyal and adjoining areas said they thought war has started and many of them shifted to safer places. The locals said that after every shell was fired their houses were shaken like never before.
Not only those living nearby, but the shelling also rattled even far off villages with some villagers saying that they are hearing the roaring sounds for the first time. “The shelling is so intense that we are for the first time hearing it hear,” said a resident from Tarathpora village.
Sources said that the heavy artillery shelling was started by Pakistan across the LoC and Army gave befitting reply.
A district official said that the damage to civilian population or any injury caused isn’t known so far but they are assessing the situation.
He said that the internet services were suspended in the area said it was the decision of higher-ups and they have no information about the temporary suspension of internet.
The mobile internet services were snapped in district Kupwara today afternoon.
