THANAMANDI, Dec 12: In an effort to empower women and to make local girls capable of either starting their own business or improving their chances of getting employment and live a life of dignity, Thanamandi based Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under Force Romeo took up a project for conducting a basic stitching and tailoring course.
Fourteen women of Thanamandi and nearby villages at Youth Employment Guidance Node (YEGN) Thanamandi took part in the tailoring course.
The course will be conducted from Dec 11 to 26, 2015. The course will impart basic knowledge of fancy cloth bag making, dolls and soft toy making, stitching and tailoring. Training will be provided to volunteer girls/women of the area free of cost.  This will make the women self reliant and independent to earn their livelihood.
The ceremony was inaugurated by Mohd Rafiq Mughal, Tehsildar of Thanamandi and attended by a number of civil dignitaries and eminent personalities of the region.
The YEGN Centre Thanamandi has conducted similar courses earlier also which have resulted in empowering approximately 40 women. The initiative by the Army has been highly appreciated by locals.
