SRINAGAR, July 24: Army shot dead three infiltrators on the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of North Kashmir and Pakistani troops were not allowing the Army to retrieve the bodies as they were continuously firing on Army search party; highly places sources said here today.
Sources said that the Army has seen three dead bodies of the militants near the LoC and once the Army advances to retrieve the bodies of the militants, Pakistani troops who are on top of the mountain resort to firing. “Intermittent firing by Pakistani troops is on since morning and Army’s efforts to retrieve the bodies have failed so far”, sources added.
General Officer Commanding (GOC), 19 Division of Army, Lt General V G Khandare said that during night intervening July 22 and 23 Army noticed movement of the infiltrators on the LoC. “The alert jawans opened fire and foiled the infiltration bid. We recovered arms and ammunition from the encounter site. The search operation is going on in the area”, he added.
Army has so far recovered one AK Rifle, 4 magazines, 45 rounds, one Bayonet, one wire cutter, three Jackets, three Ponchos, four Shawls, nine pair of socks, two Hand gloves, three Mufflers, three Knee pads, three Caps, 18 Pencil cells during search of the site.
Sources said that Army had intelligence inputs of likelihood of infiltration by the militants waiting at the launch pads along the LoC and the troops deployed along LoC were put on high alert.
The movement of the infiltrators was picked up by the surveillance devices of the Army along the LoC in the area after which Army fired on the infiltrating militants.
The GOC said large numbers of the militants are waiting on the launch pads across the LoC. Army along the LoC is on high alert to prevent any infiltration attempts.
This is second major infiltration bid this month that was foiled by the Army along the LoC. Earlier this month on July 9 army killed 5 militants in Keran sector of LoC in Kupwara district.
