SRINAGAR, July 23: Following the drowning of a man in Kishan Ganga river in Karnah area of district Kupwara, Army along with police and district officials retrieved his body that was washed away on to the Pakistan side of the river.
A spokesman of the Army said that Farooq Iliyas, son of Illiyas Hussain of Tithwal was fatally injured yesterday evening in a road accident at Tithwal in Karnah Tehsil, Kupwara, and got drowned into the river.
The spokesman said the Chamkot Battalion of the Army immediately rushed to the aid of the civilians, and together with police and district administration initiated proceedings to get the body of the deceased back.
He claimed that the Company Commander at Tithwal spoke to Pakistan Army on the other side thereby ensuring that the body was handed over to the bereaved family by night.
