JAMMU, Dec 8: An Army soldier shot himself dead with his service weapon—an Insas rifle at Army camp at Muthi in Jourian in Akhnoor tehsil this morning.
He has been identified as Lance Naik Gopal Kumar son of Naresh Kumar, a resident of Sona Varsa, Bhagalpur in Bihar.
Police said 29 years old Army soldier was on guard duty at Rakh Muthi Army camp in Jourian when he shot himself dead with his Insas service weapon. He was shifted to hospital, where he was declared dead.
No reasons have so far been ascertained behind the extreme step taken by the Army soldier.
Additional SP Jammu ML Kaith said police have initiated proceedings under Section 174 CrPC for further investigations in the case. The Army jawan had shot himself in the head.
Police handed over body of the jawan to Army, which would be sent to his native town.
