Army kills two militants in Uri

SRINAGAR, Sept 15:  Two militant were killed in the forests of North Kashmir’s Uri area by Army after the security personnel launched a massive operation this evening.
Army said here that they launched a massive operation in Baila near Mohra on the Eastern side of river Jhelum in the forests in Uri North Kashmir after they received information about the presence of 2 militants in the forests.
The operation was launched this evening and militants fired on the Army resulting in an encounter. Both the militants were killed and identity of the militants is not known yet.
The Army has also recovered arms and ammunition from the dead militants. The search operation in the area, however, continued.
Army sources said that these two militants were probably on their way to the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector to receive a militant group that was to infiltrate into Kashmir valley through this sector.
Early this month, Army foiled an infiltration bid in Kamalkote area of Uri. However, the infiltrators fled back and there was no casualty on either side.
It may be mentioned here that six militants were killed in Zamoor Pattan area near the LoC in Uri sector in May this year.
The sources said that the two dead militants were probably on their way to receive an infiltrated group. They said that they were trying to ascertain whether the militant group has already infiltrated or was to infiltrate.
Last week, Army foiled a major infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector of North Kashmir’s frontier district of Kupwara. One Army personnel and an infiltrator were killed while other infiltrators managed to flee back under the cover of darkness to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Earlier Over Ground Workers (OGWs) working for the militants used to receive infiltrated militants but militants no longer trust them. Now the militants themselves receive the infiltrated militant groups.
Last month security forces killed Abu Hanzala, the Divisional Commander of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) who was looking after infiltration of militants into Kashmir valley through North Kashmir for past few years. His killing was a major set back to militants.
Army said around 550-600 militants are waiting on the launching pads across the Line of Control (LoC) to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir to fill the void created in the militant ranks due to successful operations across the State since last year.
Police sources said that militants across LoC in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) are desperate to send top commanders into Kashmir valley after security forces eliminated their commander during operations conducted since August last year.
