Army, locals celebrate Poonch Link up Day with fervour

JAMMU, Nov 22: The White Knight Corps along with populace of Poonch celebrated the historic Poonch Link up Day with gaiety and fervor.
A slew of events were conducted in run up to the historic day. Sporting events such as Poonch Volleyball Championship, Hockey Tournament for Girls and Boys, and educational and artistic events such as Painting & Singing Competition as part of the Talent Hunt for youth of Poonch were held.
Various other events were also organized such as Eye camp, Mobility Equipment’s distribution camp and Artificial Limb Fitment camp, Equipment display by Army team, Capacity Building Tour for sports persons of the region to National Institute of Sports and other places in Patiala and Delhi and a Dog show which mesmerized the audience.

Lt Gen Paramjit Singh, GOC White Knight Corps commemorated the day by laying wreath at Naman Sthal, the War Memorial at Poonch. He was joined by Veterans and Senior Army Officials in laying wreaths and remembering the supreme sacrifice of the soldiers and the citizens of the region for defending Poonch, this day in 1948.
Today, a series of cultural events by the students and youth of Poonch kept the crowd spellbound at the Natu Audit-orium. Troupe performance by Assam Regim-ental Centre, performance by Army Band and prize distribution for the various competitions and events were also held.
Lt Gen Paramjit Singh, first visited Hill Kaka and paid homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives and interacted with people who provided assistance during Operation Sarp Vinash, an operation undertaken by Indian Army to flush out terrorists who had made bases in Hillkaka Poonch-Surankote area of Pir Panjal range in J&K during April-May 2003.
A medical camp was also organized at Village Hill Kaka. Lt Gen Paramjit Singh also distributed communication equipments to the remote hamlets of the region for emergencies during winter. Sports equipments to include cricket kits, football kits and nets were also provided to the children.
