JAMMU, Dec 29: Army tonight opened firing on observing suspicious movement along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
Sources said that on seeing suspects near the LoC in Karmara sector of Poonch, the troops opened fire.
The patrol parties all along the LoC are maintaining high alert and have cordoned off the area with heightened vigil, they added.
Possibility of the militants having tried to infiltrate into Poonch from the LoC under the cover of fog and adverse weather conditions is not ruled out.
“Searches will be carried out in forward areas early tomorrow morning to ascertain whether there were some militants in the area who tried to sneak-in,” sources said.
Meanwhile, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Nagrota-based 16 Corps Lt Gen Sandeep Jain today visited forward areas in Rajouri sector and reviewed security situation along LoC with Pakistan.
He complimented all ranks of the Army for maintaining high standards of operational preparedness.
The Army Commander was briefed by the Field Commanders on security situation prevailing along the LoC.
The LoC has been generally peaceful in Rajouri sector after fresh ceasefire agreement between Indo-Pak troops in February 2021.
However, sometimes, the militants try to infiltrate into the Indian territory from the LoC but their attempts are foiled by the alert Army troops.
