Srinagar, June 1: Army today organized ‘Uri Awami Mela’ with the theme of ‘Jawan Aur Awam, Watan Ke Pasban’ aimed to empower and benefit the locals and strengthen bond with public in Uri area of Baramulla district.
A defence official said the mela was inaugurated by Brigadier K Somashankar, SM, Commander Kalapahar Brigade along with SDM Shaukat Ali, Sarpanchs and prominent personalities of Uri Tehsil and school children.
“The event witnessed participation by approximately 5000 locals of Uri Tehsil. In consonance with the vision of Chinar Corps for participative and fruitful connect with people, the mela endeavours to provide a single platform where various facilities of the Government are available to the local population,” he said.
Government departments including Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Horticulture showcased various schemes being made available by the Government to the people, said the defence official.
“Various Government departments and NGOs like EDI, PRAHARI, UDAAN and others educated the youth on various employment opportunities including self-employment. Banks like J&K Bank and SBI also established stalls for financial inclusion of Awam. Medical camp for all was also organised,” he said.
A variety of cultural and traditional programmes by school children of Uri Tehsil and troupe of I&B Ministry were also organised to showcase the unity in diversity and great cultural heritage, said the defence official.
“Various equipment of the Army were also showcased to strengthen the affinity and foster better understanding between the Army and people. Army also organized stalls to educate the youth on the various opportunities available to join the Army. All activities were organized amidst fun and frolic atmosphere of food stalls, competitive and recreational games and playing of traditional music,” he added.
