Srinagar, July 12: Army on Saturday said that it organized the admission of 51 students of Kargil district in graduate courses under the Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).
A defence spokesperson said that prospective students were identified, their online registration carried out and now they are in advanced stages of counseling and being sent to the selected university for admission to various courses. “They were also assisted by providing a guide to accompany them till the university and carry out necessary co-ordination,” he said.
“In the previous years, since the scheme has been announced, the number of students availing this facility from Kargil district has been minimal. Last year, the Army stepped in to assist in the same and organised admission of 44 students under this Central scheme. These students from Kargil are studying in Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur since last one year and are in fact in their respective villages now for the much-awaited summer vacations. Their admission last year on complete scholarship has helped to spread the word even as far as the remote Zanskar Valley, whose students for the first time have now registered for admission this year,” the spokesperson said.
“Quality education, a likely job and hopefully a bright future, awaits these children from Kargil,” the defence spokesman added.
