Army organizes surgical eye camp

JAMMU, July 20: Week long surgical eye camp organized at 170 Military Hospital Akhnoor in accordance with ‘Vision 2020’ programme of Government of India fulfilling the ‘Right to Sight for all’ concluded.
The initiative was conceptualized to provide advanced state-of-the-art tertiary medical care to the ex-servicemen at the doorsteps of the needy in remote areas with in Northern Command Zone.
Eye teams from Command Hospital (Northern Command) and 166 MH provided expert OPD services encompassing consultation, remedial measures and dispensing of medicines.
After screening a total of 276 patients for suitability of surgery a total of 72 eye cases were operated by Colonel VK Baranwal and Lieutenant Colonel Ashok Jha, eye specialists of Command Hospital (Northern Command) and 166 Military Hospital respectively by modern state of the art phacoemulsification cataract surgery with implantation of imported US FDA approved premium foldable Intra Ocular Lens.
Major Ritesh Dubey of 170 MH provided anaesthesia cover for the eye camp. A phenomenal response was noted amongst the patients and their attendants. All cases were successful and gained good visual recovery.
The eye camp was graced by Major General Kulpreet Singh, GOC HQ 10 Infantry Division. He assured that such events will be organized frequently for benefit of the civilians and ex-servicemen.
