Army organizes women empowerment programme

SRINAGAR, June 3: In order to uplift the people and impart essential skill based training, Army is conducting Sewing Classes under the Women Empowerment Program from June 02 to Nov 30 at Community Hall, Bagtor village in Gurez.
An Army spokesman said that the Gurez Valley is cut off for almost six months in a year due to extreme weather conditions and sustenance for people is a herculean effort. People of Gurez Valley are hardworking, artistically inclined and ready to support their families with extra efforts.
He said sewing is widely popular and accepted as a support for achieving employability with minimal expenditure and decent earnings. People of Gurez are known for their art especially sewing and embroidery.  Hence, establishment of sewing classes will bring better employability for sustenance of people of the Gurez valley.
“This gesture by the Army was highly appreciated by the locals and maximum participation by the women folk of the local villages is quite evident,” he said.
