SRINAGAR, May 7: Army today paid a tribute with full military honours to its slain soldier who was killed yesterday during an operation near Line of Control in Kupwara district.
A defence spokesman said the homage was paid to the valour and sacrifice of the late soldier, Sepoy Ramesh Chand Yadav, in a solemn ceremony held at Badami Bagh Cantonment here. “Late Sepoy Ramesh Chand Yadav was a member of the Army team that foiled an infiltration bid along Line of Control in Kupwara sector,” he said.
The spokesman said a group of terrorists attempting to infiltrate was intercepted by alert troops deployed on the Line of Control. “In the ensuing encounter, Sepoy Ramesh Chand Yadav sustained gun shots wounds and succumbed to the injuries,” he said.
The spokesman said the pride and honour for the martyr were all palpable as the Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen Satish Dua and all ranks of Chinar Corps laid wreath to salute the soldier’s final journey. “Wreath was also laid on behalf of the Northern Army Commander,” he said.
The Corps Commander said that such exemplary acts always serve as an inspiration to the present and future generations and go on to further steel the resolve of all soldiers, the spokesman added.
