SRINAGAR, Nov 27: Army today paid tributes to Sepoy Rattan Singh of 163 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) and Sepoy Deshmukh Yash of 101 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) who made the supreme sacrifice on Thursday in Srinagar.
In a solemn ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantonment, Lt Gen BS Raju, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the gallant soldiers on behalf of the proud and grateful Nation.

Late Sepoy Rattan Singh and Late Sepoy Deshmukh Yash were part of the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) in general area Khushipora when unidentified terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the QRT and both of them received gunshot wounds. Inspite of being grievously injured they returned fire on the terrorists. The area was cordoned and search operations were launched. The injured soldiers were provided immediate medical aid, but unfortunately they succumbed to their injuries.
Late Sepoy Rattan Singh (35), was enrolled into the Army on Feb 18, 2006. He belonged to village Sarh of district Reasi.
Late Sepoy Deshmukh Yash (21), was enrolled into the Army on June 28, 2019. He belonged to village Pimpalgaon of district Jalgaon, in Maharastra and is survived by his parents.
Meanwhile, mortal remains of Army jawan Rattan Singh, were taken to his native village in Sarh area of Mahore in Reasi today for the last rites. Apart from officials from Army, Police and District administration, people of Sarh and adjoining area gathered in large numbers to bid a tearful adieu to the soldier.
The last rites were performed with full military honour and the mortal remains were consigned to flames. The martyr is survived by his parents, brothers, wife, daughter and two sons.
“I am both sad and proud. My son has laid down his life for the country. As a father I am proud. He was my brave son,” said father of the martyr while trying to hold back his tears.
