Army porter killed, another injured in militant firing in north Kashmir

SRINAGAR: An Army porter was today killed and another injured when militants attacked a group of labourers in Keran sector in the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara, a defence ministry spokesperson said here.

Colonel N N Joshi said a group of locals working as porters with Army was moving in the forward area of Keran sector, when some militants hiding in thick jungles opened indiscriminate fire at them. He said a porter, Shaukat Chauhan, was killed while another was seriously injured.

“Despite the bad weather conditions, the injured, after being given first aid by an Army doctor, was evacuated by helicopter to the Army hospital in BB Cantt, Srinagar where his condition is stated to be stable,” he said. (AGENCIES)
