Army saves two persons from getting washed away

JAMMU, Aug 4: Two persons were saved from getting washed away in Suru river in Kargil district here.
According late reports received here on Friday last at about 9:30 am a Mahindra Pick-up (mini truck) fell into Suru river about  3 km from Sanku near the bridge. The vehicle was being driven by Pankaj Kumar, a resident of Jammu with Joginder Kumar as his co-driver. Both the individuals were working in IMP Power Company which has undertaken a hydro power project near Sanku.
After the accident, the vehicle stuck against a rock in the river. Joginder Kumar managed to come out of the vehicle and climbed up the rock for safety. Police and NDRF team made number of attempts to rescue Joginder Kumar. One person who went to save Joginder also got stuck on the rock due to rise in the water level in river Suru.
At last Army was called for to undertake rescue operation. Army team reached at the accident site from Khumbathnag Garrison and commenced the rescue operation at 2:30 pm.
Army team successfully completed the operation after one hour and managed to pull out both the individuals from the river safely.
