Army to deploy light tank in Eastern Ladakh

JAMMU, Nov 16: A light tank for high altitude operations being developed by India is expected to be ready by this month and will undergo trials next month before being deployed in Eastern Ladakh where the Indian Army has been facing the Chinese troops for last over three and half years now.
Named as ‘Zorawar’ by the Army, the tank will have more mobility and higher accuracy fire power than the Chinese Type 15 tanks deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh.
The brand new tank, which features a 105 mm gun, was approved for development in April 2022 with the DRDO choosing Larsen and Toubro (L&T) as its partner for the project.
The tank is a brand new design with a unique chassis that has been developed indigenously. It does not rely on the K9 Vajra self-propelled gun chassis that is already being manufactured in India.
