RAJOURI, June 8: While the police has failed to trace and arrest all the five accused allegedly involved in the murder of 22-year-old youth from Kewal village in Budhal at Dangri Chowk in Rajouri on June 3, the prime accused, an Army jawan- Ajay Singh is said to have  escaped to his unit in Jabalpur.
The deceased Rakesh Kumar, son of Sham Lal, resident of Kewal in Budhal was severely beaten up at main Chowk Dangri in full public view along with his relative (mama), a sumo driver Ramesh Kumar on June 3 evening and then thrown into a deep gorge from a `puli’ by the accused persons. Ramesh, however, managed to escape. Rakesh Kumar was removed to Rajouri Hospital and then referred to GMC Jammu next morning as his condition deteriorated due to head injuries. He died on the way near Chowki Chora.  Though, Rajouri police filed a murder case in this connection, yet it failed to arrest any accused in this connection.
A deputation of relatives and family members of the deceased, besides locals from village Kewal  led by former minister Thakur Puran Singh  met the SP Rajouri Mubassar Latiffi here today. They expressed their resentment over the role of  police and alleged that jawan was given enough time to escape to his Signals Unit at Jabalpur. They also alleged that out of the five not even single accused has been arrested in connection with this cold blooded murder. The SP however, assured the relatives that all the murder accused will be arrested shortly and police team will also be sent to the unit for seeking jawan’s custody.
It may be recalled that youth along with his Tata Sumo driver relative, Ramesh Kumar, resident of  Kewal  had gone to Dalori in Budhal from Rajouri to drop some passengers on June 3.  When they reached at Dangri Chowk, they were intercepted by some people led by an Army jawan Ajay Singh, who was on leave to his village. They had some altercation with driver and his relative Rakesh on some petty issue of lifting some more passengers. They also allegedly exchanged some abuses during the tiff.
When both Ramesh and Rakesh were coming back after dropping passengers at around 4.30 pm, Ajay Singh, Rakesh Kumar-2, son of Bawa Ram, Chamail Singh, son of Balak Ram, Bal Ram and a few others others intercepted both of them and started beating. During the process, they threw Rakesh Kumar into the gorge. Many people had  gathered there.  The injured Rakesh was provided first at nearby dispensary and then shifted to District hospital Rajouri at around 7 pm.  Later, he died on way to Jammu next morning.
