The protestors alleged that despite Government assurances to waive off arrears, Power Development Department (PDD) officials in border areas continue to disconnect electricity connections.
“This is intolerable. The Government must take strict action against such officials,” the demonstrators asserted.
Organized by the local community, the protest witnessed participation from people across all border areas of Arnia.
One of the protestors said, “We have come together to express our frustration over the PDD staff’s actions. If our demands are not met, we will be forced to block roads and markets to press the Government for the immediate waiver of our pending bills.”
The protestors also criticized the local BJP MLA, accusing him of neglecting the concerns of the people, which has forced them to resort to protests.
Another protestor said that the demonstration was held under the banner of Border Sangharsh Samiti, an organization that has been consistently highlighting the issues faced by border residents to both the Union and State Governments.
He said, “We have repeatedly made it clear that we will not pay the pending bills unless basic amenities like better healthcare, roads, and reliable electricity are provided to our people.”
The protestors warned that if the pending bills, especially those of farmers in border areas, are not cleared promptly, they will launch a massive movement against the Government from Arnia.
