Srinagar, Apr 20: An Indian defence start-up, AROO, has collaborated with the army for the first time to manufacture Extreme Cold Weather Clothing Systems (ECWCS) and other specialised defence clothing.
According to a start-up spokesperson, ECWCS is a three-layer modular clothing system that can be worn together and is designed to operate in temperatures as low as -50 degrees Celsius. “This product is used by soldiers in high altitude regions, including the Siachin Glacier,” he explained.
He stated that the clothing system had been imported for more than 25 years. “We can proudly state that the AROO ECWCS outperforms the imported clothing systems supplied to the Indian Army. It is also less expensive, saving the Indian government money, “he said.
“Indian Army is no longer reliant on foreign firms for this life-saving equipment. AROO is also conducting advanced field trials with the Indian Army for the new Trouser ECC (extreme cold clothing), which can operate in temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius,” he explained.
AROO co-founder Rohit Bedi stated that they were inspired by the government’s “Make in India” policies. “Our vision began with the Indian government’s focus on promoting indigenization of key imported products in order to reduce reliance on imports. Our mission is to provide world-class protection solutions for our jawans and our ambition is to outperform any global manufacturer in terms of product, quality, and pricing, “he explained.
AROO Co-Founder Munish Hinduja stated that the manufacturing process designed by AROO is focused on producing a defect-free product. “Our OEM’s manufacturing lines, combined with our quality standards and rigorous raw material testing conducted at our OEM’s in-house testing facility, provide us with real-time product performance. With an eye on the CLO value (warmth level) and waterproofness of the garment, our production supply outperforms foreign specifications by 20% to 75% on key performance parameters, “he said.
