JAMMU, Nov 14: A meeting of the Department Related Standing Committee (DRSC-IV) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council was held here, today under the chairmanship of MLC, Ramesh Arora to review the functioning of Power Development Department.
Legislators, Ali Mohammad Dar, Rani Gargi Blowria, Saif-ud-Din Bhat and Vibod Gupta attended the meeting.
Managing Director, PDC, Shah Faisal briefed the meeting about status of several issues related to their respective wings including regularization of PDC employees.
The Committee also discussed in detail other issues like electrification of all un-electrified villages in the State. In this regard, the Committee asked for submission of accurate figures of total un-electrified areas in the state within next ten days.
Arora took the PDD authorities to task for their failure in regularizing the 400 temporary employees. He told Excelsior though the statements of the Commissioner Secretary Power, Deeraj Gupta and M D Power Development Corporation (PDC) Shah Faisal were to be recorded but Gupta could not attend the meeting as due to his indisposition and the statement was deferred. He said the next meeting will be held on November 28.
He said MD PDC sought one week’s time regarding the regularization issue. Arora told officers that the figures given by them that only 108 villages are without power in the State are not correct as many small hamlets were not included in the same. He sought in writing that these all villages will be electrified by March 2018. However the officers sought more time and said that they will write the Central Government in this regard.
He also reprimanded the PDD for its failure in building the infrastructure despite having the resources for the same and stressed that he resources be increased.
The Committee expressed serious concern over poor performance of IRCON especially in Kalakot village Gulabgarh, Barwari, Mogla block and Rajouri district.
Addressing the meeting MLC Vibodh Gupta stressed top ensure proper supply of power in Rajouri district where people face over 12 hour power cuts. He also demanded early completion of Dongi Receiving Station and sought action against IRCON for slow pace of work.
Later, Chairman DRSC-IV Ramesh Arora chaired another meeting of PHE and Flood Control Department to review its functioning.
Legislators, Ali Mohammad Dar, Sham Lal Bhagat, Saif-ud-Din Bhat and Vibod Gupta attended the meeting.
Threadbare discussion was held regarding the price escalation observed in execution of the Chenab Water Supply Scheme, aimed at providing drinking water to Jammu city and adjoining areas.
