SRINAGAR, Oct 19: Police today said that the hybrid militant Imran Ganie who was arrested in connection with a grenade attack on non-labourers was killed after militants fired upon security forces during ongoing raids in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Police said that based on disclosure of arrested hybrid militant and in continuous raids by Police and security forces, another contact was established between militants and security forces at Nowgam Shopian, in which hybrid militant – Imran Bashir Ganaie- was killed by firing of another militant. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition has been recovered from the hideout/site of contact. Search is still going on. Further details shall follow,” police said.
On Tuesday, two labourers from UP – Manish Kumar and Ram Sagar – were killed at their rented accommodation in Harmain area of Shopian after militants attacked them with a grenade.
In the meantime, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found by a team of security forces at Wudipora in Langate Handwara of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district this morning.
The explosive was detected during a routine patrolling by Army’s 30 RR and police near locally stationed army camp, prompting the security forces’ to suspend vehicular and human movement along the road.
A Bomb Disposal Squad was roped in, which defused the explosive without causing damage to anyone or any property, they further said.
Meanwhile, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) today conducted searches at the house of lynchpin of a dangerous narco-militancy module in Sopore area of North Kashmir[H1] .
The SIA said that in a month-long chase of elusive leads to identify the lynchpin of a dangerous narco-militancy module, they finally zeroed in on to a woman who has overseen at least Rs 10 crores worth narcotics and drugs smuggled into India from Pakistan.
The SIA said that searches were conducted today at her Sopore den and digital devices among other records having a bearing on the case were seized.
“The investigation into the secret dealings of this syndicate is being done vide case FIR No 19/2022 under Sections 8/21 NDPS Act, 13 17 18 39 40 UA(P) Act registered in Police Station CIK (SIA) Kashmir,” it said.
The statement further stated that preliminary investigations that triggered this investigation suggests that consignments of smuggled heroin and other narcotics, psychotropic substances are being partly sold in local markets.
“The bulk or the contraband, however, is further smuggled to other parts of the country for sale. Proceeds of the sale, as per initial findings are being brought back to Kashmir and used to finance militancy and separatist organization(s) / militant(s) to continue with militant and unlawful activities,” the SIA added.
“Mobile devices, Bank pass books, a diary type notebook and cash in Indian currency amounting to Rs 1,99,800 recovered from the house of the woman coordinator are being examined for unravelling the details of the other members of the syndicate,” read the statement.
