Leh, Aug 4: An interesting session highlighting the Art and Culture of majestic Ladakh was organized by London-based Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence, in association with The Nehru Centre (ICCR), London.
Rinchen Wacher, renowned lyricist, composer and musician of Ladakh spoke extensively on festivals, way of life, nomadic people and music instruments of Ladakh at the event hosted on virtual platform.
Introduction to the session was rendered by Ragasudha Vinjamuri, Founder of Sanskruti Centre. Preface to the event was given by Amish Tripathi, celebrated Author and Director of The Nehru Centre and Minister (Culture), High Commission of India, in which he described Ladakh as the first land that receives River Sindhu (Indus) and hence gives the identity to the people of India. Short introductory videos highlighting the remarkable contributions of both Amish and Rinchen were shown on the occasion.
Attendees immensely enjoyed the songs that Rinchen presented, the playing of Damnyan instrument while outlining the Losar festival celebrations and people’s bondages with each other. It was also interesting to learn Yak and Sheep farming and how teachers and medical professionals accompany the constantly moving nomadic people so that their education is not disrupted.
Question and answer session was conducted during which attendees sought the cultural similarities and differences of Ladakhi people, influence on music and impact of nature on composing etc.
It is the first ever such session held for the UK audiences that has exclusively unveiled unique Ladakhi art and culture, as it gains attention as the new Union Territory of India.
