RAJOURI, Jan 11: For the first time, an Arthroscopic surgery was performed in Associated Hospital (AH) of Government Medical College Rajouri.
A team of doctors comprising Dr Irfan Malik (Assistant Professor Orthopaedics), Dr Nahid Khan (Anaesthetist), Dr Adrees (SR Orthopaedics), Dr Ashraf (DNB Orthopaedics), Shahid Bhat (OT Technician) and Amir (Anesthesia Technician) under supervision of Principal Prof (Dr) A S Bhatia and Medical Superintendent Dr Mehmood Hussain Bajar performed ACL Reconstruction and Meniscectomy surgery on a patient namely Shahida Begum, resident of Koteranka.
The Surgery was performed free of cost under AB-PMJAY Sehat Scheme where as it is a costly procedure. Earlier for this type of surgery, patients had to go out of Rajouri but henceforth these types of surgeries will be performed on regular basis in AH GMC Rajouri.
Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure for diagnosing and treating joint problems that Orthopaedic surgeon use to visualize and treat problems inside a joint. Conditions treated with arthroscopy include loose bone fragments, damaged or torn cartilage, inflamed joint linings, torn ligaments, scaring within joints, etc.
