JAMMU, Dec 23: Senior BJP leader and MLA Jammu West, Arvind Gupta today kick-started the construction of a comprehensive sewerage network aimed at improving sanitation and urban infrastructure in the constituency.
The project, undertaken by the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED), focuses on providing sewerage connections in left-out areas, including Rehari, Sarwal, Rajpura, Shakti Nagar and adjoining localities.
The development work of sewerage is being executed by the Sewerage & Drainage Division (West) of UEED Jammu with an estimated costs of Rs 84 lakh. On the occasion, Vijay Manhas, Executive Engineer, UEED, AEE Arun, JE Ashutosh, Veenu Khanna, Mandal president, Atul Bakshi, Rajan Gupta, Amrik Singh and prominent people of Jammu West were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Arvind Gupta stated that this initiative would address the longstanding demand of the people of Jammu West by improving sewerage facilities and ensuring a cleaner, healthier living environment. He highlighted how the lack of an efficient sewerage system has been a major concern for the area, impacting both hygiene and the overall quality of life.
Arvind Gupta reiterated the BJP’s commitment to delivering development projects that directly benefit the public and improve their living conditions. He noted that this project would not only enhance sanitation infrastructure but also contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment, aligning with the vision of a Swachh Bharat (Clean India). The initiative, he said, reflects the Government’s dedication to addressing grassroots issues and ensuring that urban areas in Jammu are equipped with modern amenities, he added.
The MLA mentioned that the construction work involves laying a robust sewerage network, complete with house sewer connections to previously excluded households in the above mentioned areas. Once completed, the project will significantly enhance waste management efficiency and reduce environmental concerns caused by open drainage.
The MLA later accompanied by Dr Parneesh Mahajan, inaugurated 91st free general health and eye check up camp at Nandini Sehora. It was organised by Chairman Samvedna Society, Keshav Chopra in collaboration with K.D Multispeciality Hospital Jammu headed by Dr J.P Singh. 83 patients were provided free of cost treatment including Refraction, NCT, AR Check Up, Vision Check Up by a Expert team of doctors, free blood sugar, blood pressure tests were done and Medicines were also given to the patients free of cost.
