ASCOMS organizes Basic Neonatal Resuscitation Program

JAMMU, Oct 3: Department of Paediatrics, ASCOMS & Hospital In association with Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) organized Basic Neonatal Resuscitation Program (BNRP) today.
BNRP is a flagship program of the IAP under First Golden minute project where medical and paramedical personnel dealing with birth of newborn babies are trained to assess and resuscitate newborn babies if required. This training was attended by doctors from the Department of Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, faculty from the nursing college and staff nurses.
The team of instructors included Dr Sanjeev K Digra (Professor, Department of Paediatrics, SMGS Hospital), Dr Subash Slathia (Senior Paediatrician, Jammu), Dr Vikas Mahajan (Associate Professor, ASCOMS Jammu) and Dr Niraj K Gupta (Assistant Professor, GMC Doda). It is pertinent to mention that Dr Sanjeev K Digra and Dr Niraj K Gupta are the State coordinators for NRP and are instrumental for conducting these programs across the region.
Dr Ravinder K Gupta, Professor and HoD Paediatrics ASCOMS, and president IAP Jammu was the chief course coordinator. He highlighted the importance of BNRP in equipping the medical and paramedical staff with necessary skills to deal with any exigencies at the time of birth of a newborn. He also stressed that such programs will continue to be held in future in the department. The scientific program was assisted by Dr Sushil Sharma (Assistant Professor ASCOMS), Dr Manoj Sharma (Assistant Professor ASCOMS) and Dr Wajid Ali (Assistant Professor ASCOMS).
Dr Rabinder Rattan Pal, Medical Superintendent ASCOMS. inaugurated the program. He also highlighted the importance of Neonatal Resuscitation Program to curb down neonatal mortality.
