ASCONE observes World AIDS Day

JAMMU, Dec 10: Acharya Shri Chander College of Nursing Education (ASCONE) Jammu observed World AIDS Day and organized Lamp Lighting Ceremony as well as Sports Meet from 8th-10th December under the aegis of NSS Gaillardia Chapter 16, Jammu in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society, Jammu.
The Theme for the World AIDS Day was “Putting Ourselves to the Test Achieving Equity to end HIV”. The chief guest on the occasion was DK Batra (secretary, ASCOMS) and guest of honour was Dr Pavan Malhotra (Director Principal, ASCOMS). Special guests were Dr (Prof) Pity Koul, Prof & Dean, Faculty of Nursing, SGT University Gurgaon, Rajesh Sharma (Assistant Director, Youth Affairs, J&K AIDS Control Society) and Risheesh Khajuria (Assistant Director Publicity, J&K AIDS Control Society).
In his address, Dr Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, ASCOMS & Hospital welcomed all dignitaries for joining the Lamp Lighting and Oath taking ceremony of 1st year BSc Nursing and GNM Students. He said that this is a special occasion for the Nursing Students to begin their career in the Nursing field. He said that this day is attributed to Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing who used the flame of the candle to light her way as she made the rounds of sick and injured.
Dr (Prof) Indra Moza (Principal, Acharya Shri Chander College of Nursing Education) gave a brief account of importance of Lamp Lighting/Oath taking ceremony and the beauty of nursing profession. Dr (Prof) Pity Koul (Prof & Dean, Faculty of Nursing, SGT University Gurgaon) and officers from the AIDS Control Society also graced the occasion.
A short skit highlighting the spread of HIV/AIDS and its consequences was presented by the students of the College. Dogri and Kashmiri Songs were also presented on the occasion.
Mementos and Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to the winner of games, poster and rangoli competitions and also to the dedicated staff by the chief guest.
