JAMMU, Mar 23: Asha Kiran Welfare Society today celebrated its 16th Foundation Day with an impressive event at Shiv Shakti Temple Hall in Janipur Colony area of the Jammu district.
MLA Jammu North, Sham Lal Sharma, attended the event as the Chief Guest, alongside ID Soni, President of the Old Age Home, Jammu, Dr Rajeev Bhagat, MLA Bishnah, and former Corporator, Sunita Gupta, who were also Guests of Honour.
The ceremony began with a traditional lamp-lighting, followed by a Saraswati Vandana performed by members of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan.
Dr Vikrant Sharma, President of Asha Kiran Welfare Society, welcomed the dignitaries and gave an overview of the Society’s achievements and ongoing projects.
In his address, Sham Lal Sharma praised the Society for its dedication to social welfare, highlighting its key initiatives, such as providing sewing machines to widows, offering scholarships to students, and distributing medical aid to thousands.
He emphasized the importance of collective community efforts in bringing about real social change and encouraged attendees to actively support such initiatives.
The Society’s efforts in empowering women were showcased with the distribution of sewing machines to two widows, Veena Verma and Rajni Mukesh, as part of its mission to foster financial independence.
Over the years, a statement said, Asha Kiran Welfare Society has made significant strides in improving the lives of underprivileged individuals.
It has provided sewing machines to 24 women, trained 57 women in sewing, and awarded scholarships to 277 students.
Further, the Society’s dispensary has helped over 44,000 patients, and it has distributed essential ration kits to 106 families.
The guests of honour also expressed their admiration for the Society’s contributions.
ID Soni encouraged attendees to embrace the principle of karma and support the less fortunate.
Dr Rajeev Bhagat praised the Society’s focus on education and offered his full backing for future projects while Sunita Gupta applauded the Society’s work in women empowerment, education and healthcare.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Kamal Netar, General Secretary of the Society.
