ASHA workers stage protest

JAMMU, Oct 4: Former CPI (M) MLA from Kulgam and senior CITU leader, Mohd Yousuf Tarigami today alleged that Government was exploiting work force and forcing them to work on just meager wages in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a large rally of ASHA workers at Hari Singh Park in Jammu today, CITU leader said that ASHA workers in Jammu and Kashmir are staging protests at various district headquarters since long in support of their demands, but unfortunately, the LG’s administration has not cared to listen to their issues.
Tarigami said that these workers are being paid monthly honorarium of just Rs 2000. A little incentive is also provided to them in addition to this. They are demanding workers status and facilities at par with them. Till then they must be paid as per Minimum Wages Act.
He demanded that they must be paid Rs 10,000/ as per the Act and other facilities like Smart Phone, Mobile Phone bills, hike in incentives. They are performing additional duties and they must be paid additional incentives for the same.
The CITU leader said that since ASHA Workers Union is affiliated to CITU therefore, he is projecting their issues at every front. He said many states have increased the wages of ASHA workers from Rs 15000 to Rs 18,000 per month. The UT administration should also increase their wages besides providing other facilities including TA, hike in uniform incentives and Mobile phone bills etc.
Several ASHA Workers Union leaders also addressed the gathering and appealed to the workers to remain united for their common cause.
