JAMMU, June 10: Demanding increase in their honorarium, ASHA workers took out a protest march, here today and also submitted a memorandum of demands to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu.

A large number of ASHA workers from various districts of Jammu region, assembled at Green Belt Park Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and then marched towards the Divisional Commissioner’s Office amidst raising of slogans in support of their long pending demands.
Holding red flags and placards in their hands, these ASHA workers were demanding increase in their honorarium to Rs 7500 on the pattern of Kerala State, recognition of ASHA as workers for respect and better conditions of working.
The rally started from Green Belt Park and after passing through the various crossings, culminated in front of Divisional Commissioner office Jammu, where a deputation of ASHA Workers Union – Jammu, led by Sham Parsad Kesar, senior leader of CITU State Committee, met the Div Com and submitted him a memorandum of demands.
Demands highlighted in the memorandum, included implementation of 45th Indian Labour Conference’s recommendations such as regularization of ASHA, minimum wage Rs 18000/-pm and social security benefits like pension and gratuity etc, recognition of ASHAs as workers, incentive and allowing continuity in services to ANM trainees, payment of Rs 1400/- in cash in case of non-State beneficiaries, implementing Government of India’s order dated 3rd Jan 2014 for revision of incentive from 10000/- to 16000/- per year, cover under Aam Admi Bima Yojna and solution of others problems being confronted by ASHA workers.
The Divisional Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the deputation and assured that the demands, which were not in his competence, would be recommended to concerned higher authority for favourable consideration.
The deputation comprised of Sunita Bhagat, State general secretary of Union, Kanta Devi, Anita, Anuradha, Bimla, Gita, Rita and others.
