JAMMU, Mar 26: ASHA Workers Union led by Sham Prasad Kesar, senior leader of CITU met Director, National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and submitted memorandum of demands.
The demands highlighted in the memorandum included recognition of ASHAs as workers, implementation of Government of India’s order dated January 3, 2014 for revision of incentive from Rs 10,000 to Rs 16,000 per year, implementation of Minimum Wages Act, payments on account of Janani Suraksha Yojana, cover under Aam Aadmi Bima Yojna, cash payment to beneficiaries, postnatal checks up, immunization, vaccine carrier, mobile charges, family planning, two uniforms per year, changing rooms, TA and DA, besides many other problems being confronted by ASHA workers.
Director agreed to consider some demands like implementation of Aam Admi Bima Yojna as a social security to the ASHA workers, nominal increase linked with their performance in their incentives upto Rs 1000 per month, implementation of the Government of India’s order dated January 3, 2014, changing rooms for ASHA at every hospital and health centre in phased manner, group mobile facilities etc.
Director also assured that the demands which are not in his competence will be recommended to the authorities concerned for consideration.
Among others present were Sunita Devi, general secretary, ASHA Union, Om Parkash, general secretary CITU, Kanta Dev Majaltai, Santosh, Sumita, Raj Sharma, etc.
