Ashok Sodhi remembered on 5th death anniversary

JAMMU, May 11: Entire media fraternity–both electronic and print-today paid floral tributes to late Ashok Sodhi, senior photojournalist of the State on his fifth death anniversary.
Sodhi had attained martyrdom while performing his professional duties as Chief Photographer of the Daily Excelsior during a fierce encounter in Samba on May 11, 2008.
A simple function was organised at K L Saighal Hall where family members of late Ashok Sodhi, media persons from various organisations and prominent people from different walks of life offered floral tributes to Sodhi’s portrait and remembered his contribution towards society as a whole and journalism in particular.
Local artistes including Dr Chanchal Sharma, Rakesh Anand and Bishan Dass recited bhajans (devotional songs) in the memory of late Ashok Sodhi and offered their tributes to the departed soul.
Inspector General of Police, Jammu Rajesh Kumar, Director of Tourism, Jammu Soujanya Sharma and Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, SSP Jammu (additional charge) JS Johar and Heena Sodhi daughter of late Shri Ashok Sodhi were among the prominent people who paid floral tributes and recalled the services and contribution of late Ashok Sodhi in the field of journalism.
They said that late Ashok Sodhi was bestowed with charismatic persona having dedication towards his profession and he left an indelible imprint behind particularly for those who worked with him as he dedicated and scarified his life to journalism.
They said he would be remembered for his contribution to photojournalism in the State by the coming generations, particularly by the media fraternity.
Late Sodhi’s friends in media described him a “valiant and brave” photojournalist who didn’t bother to sacrifice his life for his profession.
“He would remain alive in the hearts and souls of all journalists and continue to inspire coming generations through his sacrifice,” they said.
