SRINAGAR, June 24: A group of 8 legislators of the Library Committee of Assam Legislative Assembly headed by its Chairman, MLA Banendra Kumar Mushahary, called on the Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul here today. The legislators shared their experiences and working of the Assam Assembly with the Speaker.
The Speaker briefed the group about the functioning of the J&K Assembly, besides the working of Library Committee in detail. He apprised the group that the Assembly Library has 27,000 valuable ready references in English, Urdu and other languages on various subjects including History, Tourism, Religious, Constitution and Law which have been catalogued properly.
He said the list of the reference books will shortly be put on the website of the Assembly for the benefits of the people of the State in general and the book readers, research scholars, authors and intellectuals of the country in particular.
Mr. Gul informed the group that the Library of J&K Assembly is being upgraded to national and international standard for which the process has already been started.
The Chairman of the group said that Assam Legislative Assembly has 39,000 references in its Library which are being provided only to the sitting legislators. He said the Assam Government is contemplating to make the system online for which the process has been started.
The Speaker exhorted upon the group to act as ambassadors of the State. He said as ambassadors they should convey the message of peace, love, brotherhood and composite culture of State in general and Kashmir in particular to the country.
Besides, Secretary, Legis-lative Assembly M. Ramzan, Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary and Committee Officer of Assam Assembly were also present on the occasion.
