Assembly adjourned twice as PDP creates uproar

JAMMU : Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was today adjourned twice as mainstream opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) today created uproar demanding more discussion on hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru in the House.
Speaker Legislative Assembly Mubarak Gul had accepted the adjournment motion moved by the PDP and allowed them for discussion in the House.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti spoke in the House as Leader of the Opposition on Afzal Guru’s hanging and handing of his mortal remains to his family members.
While the PDP wanted to hold more discussion and sought time from the Speaker for other party legislators, the Speaker refused following which Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister replied on the issue.
Mr Abdullah in his reply blamed PDP for politicising the Afzal Guru issue and said they want to gain political mileage for vote banks.
Besides, CPI (M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, who had also moved the adjournment motion, spoke on the issue.
The PDP legislators continued disrupting the House proceedings and entered the well of the House. They tore papers amid slogans.
The Speaker adjourned the House for 30 minutes.
The House earlier was adjourned in the beginning of the session when the Bhartiya Janata Party and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party(NPP) MLAs wanted to discuss killing of two police personnel in militant attack in Handwara on Saturday and bringing back the body of Indian prisoner Chamel Singh, who died in custody in Lakhpat jail in Lahore.
BJP and JKNPP MLAs also walked out of the House criticising the government for allowing PDP to hold discussion on ‘anti-nationals’ and not allowing them to discuss issues of concern.
As soon as the House resumed after adjournment, PDP expressed that there was no assurance from the Chief Minister’s chair on bringing back the mortal remains of Afzal Guru and they boycotted the proceedings. (AGENCIES)
