Assembly witnesses 6 walkouts

JAMMU, Mar 8: Walkouts and protests by legislators of various political parties on different issues today dominated the proceedings of Legislative Assembly during the Question Hour.
Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Jugal Kishore and Jammu State Morcha MLA Ashwani Sharma staged walkout over discrimination with Jammu region in tourism sector. They started protest after the Minister for Urban Local Bodies Nawang Rigjin Jora, who was replying to the queries on behalf of Minister for Tourism, informed the House that Mubarak Mandi ropeway project was yet to get nod from the Supreme Court’s empowered committee.
“Government is not raising infrastructure in tourism sector in the Jammu region and maximum tourist destinations are being neglected and not developed up to mark”, Jugal Kishore said, adding “inadequate funds are sanctioned for the Surinsar and Mansar lakes while as proposed small lake at Jajjar Kotli has not seen the light of the day till date”.
Jammu State Morcha legislator Ashwani Sharma said, “Government is intentionally not developing tourist spots across Jammu region,” adding that the fate of Mubarak Mandi and Patnitop Gandola projects is hanging in balance despite repeated assurances from the Government about early start of the work.
MLA Poonch Aijaz Jan staged walkout on poor health infrastructure in his constituency. “For the past several years assurances are being given about installation of CT Scan but till date nothing has been done”, he said, adding “what is the fun of sitting here when my genuine demand is not being taken seriously”.
After protesting over the issue for sometime Jan, a National Conference legislator staged walkout despite repeated requests from the Speaker Mubarak Gul to listen the reply of the Minister for Health. National Panthers Party MLA Harshdev Singh and several legislators from PDP also criticized the Government for poor health facilities in far flung areas.
“Most of the health centres are functioning in temporary (mud) structures in remote belts of various districts and no funds have been released to develop Infrastructure,” Mr Singh said, adding “every year assurances are given in the House but nothing concrete has been done so far on ground and people in far flung areas have to walk miles for medicines and proper treatment”.
People’s Democratic Party legislators Javed Mustafa Mir, Dr Shafi Ahmad Wani and Mushtaq Bukhari staged walkout over discrimination with the opposition constituencies in R&B sector while as Zahoor Mir staged walk out for not being given chance to raise the query.
