Assly begins, protesting legislator marshaled out

JAMMU :  Protesting independent Member of Legislative Assembly from Langate Constituency, Engineer Rashid was today marshaled out on the opening day of the Assembly Session here.

The 26-day-long Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session commenced this morning with Governor N N Vohra’s address to the joint sitting of both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.

As soon as the Governor started reading his address, MLA Engineer Rashid, raised slogans demanding handing over body of Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru’s body to his family in Srinagar.

Wearing black badge and carrying a poster displaying ‘hanging of Guru’, the legislator staged protest and disrupted the Governor Address asking “Why Afzal was murdered? Why he was hanged? Congress party sacrificed him for vested interests,” the MLA shouted.

Bhartiya Janata Party MLAs, Ashok Khajuria flanked by Sukhnandan Choudhary, Sham Choudhary, Chief Whip Jugal Kishore and Jammu State Morcha MLA Ashwani Sharma, opposed Engineer Rashid’s pro-Afzal slogans during Governor Address.

“Throw out the anti-nationals. They do not deserve to be here in the address,” BJP MLAs said.
