SRINAGAR, Aug 24: The Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) today proposed another Dry Port for Jammu and Kashmir at Udhampur and rail corridor from Udhampur to Gujarat Port with custom clearance facility at Kathua and Udhampur ports.
The suggestions were shared by Manik Batra, Chairman, ASSOCHAM J&K Council to Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) in a meeting on ‘Augmenting Infrastructure Facility to Boost Exports” held at SKICC, Srinagar.
ASSOCHAM also suggested subsidy/concession on freight, import-export exposition centres for Jammu and Srinagar cities, subsidy on horticulture produce and short term course of import-exports for locals.
“Jammu and Kashmir has a number of products which can be exported to other countries. Suggestions submitted to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce can boost the exports from J&K,” said Manik Batra.
The Parliamentary standing committee led by Member Parliament, V Vijayasai Reddy is on its five-day visit to J&K and Ladakh to study the present situation and scope to boost export in the two union territories.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee also met other local and national chambers and took their feedback on boosting export infrastructure in J&K. It will also visit Leh and take suggestions and feedback from Ladakh industry chambers and exporters. The Parliamentary Committee also urged the leading banks to facilitate and increase their credit support to the exporters of the UT.
“After detailed survey, ASSOCHAM has submitted few suggestions to the Parliamentary Standing Committee and we are hopeful that our valid suggestions will be considered while framing the policy, said Dr M A Alim, Co-Chairman, ASSOCHAM J&K Council.
The ASSOCHAM delegation led by Chairman Manik Batra was comprised of Dr M A Alim, Co-Chairman, ASSOCHAM J&K Council, Gourav Mahajan, Regional Director, ASSOCHAM North and Amit Khajuria, Assistant Director & State Head, ASSOCHAM J&K, Ladakh.
