ASSOCHAM discusses steps to ensure sustenance of existing units in J&K

JAMMU, Jan 7: In its first meeting held today at ASSOCHAM office Narwal, Manik Batra, Chairman ASSOCHAM Jammu & Kashmir, Dr M A Alim, Co-Chairman and other senior members agreed and decided to submit detailed memorandum regarding package for rehabilitation, revival and sustenance of existing service and industrial sector in the Union Territory of J&K to concerned departments at the UT and Central level.
Manik Batra stated that ASSOCHAM is of the view that in the first instance, all efforts are to be made to ensure sustenance of existing units in both Industrial and Service sector. Then, the existing units be facilitated to expand and grow and then investments both in Industrial and Service Sector be made attractive and the Union Territory of J&K be made a preferred destination for investment throughout the country.
He suggested that one Incentive policy which covers both Industrial and Service sector with similar incentives been made available to both sectors. Additional sector specific incentives can be added in Supplementary list to the basic Policy.
Dr M A Alim, Co-Chairman ASSOCHAM J&K highlighted the importance of Development of Small Hydel Projects. He stated that the J&K has a huge untapped potential of Small Hydel Projects. The advantages of developing these small hydel projects in remotely located places is that it will result in development of these remote areas in the State as well as stabilizing the power grid. In this context, he suggested the necessity for special package of Incentives for revival and development of Small Hydel Projects up to 15 MW in J&K.
Those present in the meeting were Vikrant Kuthiala, Kuldeep Gupta, Bupesh Gupta, Bhisham Batra, Suvidha Jain, Sanjay Gupta, Atul Sharma, Vivek Bhardwaj and Anubhav Chaudhary.
